FAQ
What is a mental capacity assessment?
Is an assessment that determines whether someone has the ability or understanding to make a decision. The Mental Capacity Act is a law that relates to this. The Mental Capacity Act gives practitioners the guidance and law when doing assessments.
Why do I need a mental capacity assessment for my relative?
It is important that a person can understand things before a decision is made. If you suspect that your relative cannot understand important information or their memory is not as good as it used to be, you may then need to organise a mental capacity assessment. For example, you notice that bills are not being paid, or you start to think your family member cannot cope on their own, or can’t speak to someone over the phone and answer questions. You may need to think about how to help them. There are different things you can do, and a solicitor will be able to help you. But the first thing you need to do is organise a mental capacity assessment. Victoria can help with this.
Who can do an assessment?
An experienced mental capacity assessor, either a registered nurse, social worker or Occupational Therapist.
How much does it cost?
When you make an enquiry to have an assessment, I will provide you with a quote that is always fair and value for money. You can always get a quote from another company who provides assessments and compare. You can always try your GP, but from experience this can be problematic and time consuming as you don’t get an answer straight away. But its worth asking your GP as they may do it for free.
How long does it take and when will I get the report back?
You normally get the COP3 or report back within a couple of days.
